Three Fun Fall Events to Plan

When you’re trying to build community and cultivate healthy friendships among the girls you’re ministering to, you may occasionally find yourself playing the role of event planner. From weekend retreats to simple movie nights, all the planning and preparing often takes significant intentionality. However, even when the preparation feels draining, the reward of seeing teen girls forging bonds and prioritizing unity makes every small detail worth the effort!

So, if you find yourself in need of a fun fall event to plan for your girls, look no further! Instead of scouring Pinterest, try out one (or three!) of these easy, fun-filled ideas!

  1. Host a girls glamp-out! Instead of a regular camp-out, you can dress it up with fun tents, string lights, and lots of cute throw pillows and blankets. You could have it outside on a pretty fall night or you even host it indoors if the weather gets too cool. While you could always end the party without actually camping out, you may want to turn it into a sleepover if you’re brave (and if you have plenty of coffee, of course). Throw in an outdoor movie, s’mores, and some warm apple cider and you’ve got a perfect fall night with your girls!

  1. Host a Painting Party! Instead of painting pumpkins this fall, try painting something unexpected! I recently hosted a painting party for teen girls, and we painted canvas tote bags. It was inexpensive, fun, and the girls use their bags all the time to carry Bibles or books for school. However, if you want to change it up from pumpkins, it doesn’t even have to be tote bags—you could paint old records, denim, or pillowcases! Anything that the girls will be able to keep longer than the pumpkins that will inevitably be left rotting on their porches. Don’t forget to turn on a good fall themed movie and serve up a classic autumn snack (caramel apple bar, anyone?) and you’ve got a unique fall event for your girls!

  1. Host a “Girlsgiving”. Similar to Friendsgiving (a Thanksgiving meal for friends), Girlsgiving is just for ladies! You can serve traditional thanksgiving food or change it up and make it more casual. Recruit some leaders to help you out with the turkey and have the girls bring side dishes. Spend time as a group thanking God for the gift of friendship and discuss the importance of unity among the body of Christ.

Ultimately, the most important part of these events isn’t the perfect, Instagram-worthy decorations or the schedule that went off without a hitch. Instead, the most important part of your fall event is that your girls leave encouraged by growing closer to God and by growing closer to each other through strengthened relationships founded on Christ. Chances are likely that the girls won’t remember the adorable glamping tents or their meticulously painted tote bag, but prayerfully they will remember the spiritual impact these events had on their lives as teenagers.

Finally, if you’re still struggling with ideas for a fall event that’s right for your ministry, try reaching out to the girls themselves. Let them join you in planning the event and watch as they enjoy it even more because of the ownership they bore.
