Small Group Fun for Christmas

As soon as November 1 rolled around, I immediately wanted to decorate for the holidays.  I love the twinkling lights, savory smells, and festive celebrations that follow. As you prepare for the holidays, I want to offer ways to encourage deeper friendships and a deeper love for Jesus among the girls you pour into. Check out some of these few, easy ideas for some holiday fun.

Holiday Craft & Cards Night

Prepare a few treats, and have either some fun punch or hot cocoa ready to serve. Let the table be the center of your meeting because coming around the table can create such sweet conversations.  Fill the table with craft supplies like markers, glitter, stickers, water color paint, and holiday card stock, etc.

One option is to ask the girls to make a Christmas card that they can give to a friend, family member, or neighbor. You could even have the girls make cards to deliver to the residents at a local nursing home!

Check out the blog later this week for some ideas on Pinterest-worthy Christmas crafts you could do with your girls!

Christmas Sweaters and Skating

Invite the girls to a night at the local skating rink. Have them bring a friend and wear their ugliest Christmas sweaters.

Christmas Themed Game Night

Organize a fun game night where all of the games are Christmas themed! You could ask your girls to bring a game to play, or you could arrange a game like Christmas charades, Name that Christmas Tune, or Merry Christmas Fish ( replace Go fish with Merry Christmas). Another fun idea that may take a little more effort would would be organizing a scavenger hunt where each girl receives a small gift or treat at the end!

Christmas Movie Night In

Invite girls over for a girls night in, where they can wear their Christmas pj’s, watch a fun holiday movie, and enjoy yummy snacks. You could serve hot cocoa, pizza, or popcorn, or the girls could each bring their favorite snack to share!

$1 White Elephant Gift Exchange

A white elephant gift exchange is something easy and fun that can be done just about anywhere! Ask each girl to bring an item that only costs a dollar and make sure it’s wrapped. (I would grab a few extra just in case someone forgets their gift). Put the gifts in the center of the room and number them. Each girl will draw a number and open from 1 to the highest number. As each gift is opened the next person will either take that gift or grab one from the middle.  This is a fun way to celebrate that teen girls absolutely love!

Christmas Spa Night

Invite the girls over for a spa night. You could make a fun face mask or body scrub together. (OR Walmart always has some around the holidays that are super cheap and holiday themed!!) Break out the red and green polishes, and let the girls give each other manicures!

I hope that these ideas sparked even more ideas in you. My prayer is that as you pull your girls around a table, or head to the holiday rink, or play a festive game you will be intentional and encourage them to press pause on the chaos, so they can treasure up a sweet holiday moment.

One of my favorite Christmas verses comes from Luke 2.

But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.—Luke 2:19

Mary took time to soak up exactly what was happening around her and in front of her. She chose to let the moment sink in so she could remember everything about that day.  My challenge for each of you this season is to soak up all the smells, sights, and sounds around you. I truly believe Jesus has something so sweet for you tucked away in this coming season.
