Surviving Spring: 3 Ways to Lead Well When Life is Busy

By Mary Margaret @ LifeWay

I wish I could tell you how many women have asked me this question over the last few weeks: “What do I do when girls quit showing up for Bible study, church, small group, etc?” I’m guessing that some of you are dealing with the same thing. While it’s easy to think it’s about you, it’s probably not. It probably has way more to do with the fact that they’re in the post-spring break slump, and that everyone is busy and tired.

Here are a few ways to lead well when life gets busy:

  1. Be consistent. Even if just one girl shows up for discipleship or small group, show up for her. Make sure these girls know that they’re still a priority to you, even when everyone bails. This one gets hard because you’re tired, too. Let them know how much they matter by showing up.
  2. Don’t give up. Friends, don’t lose heart or become discouraged. You’re doing kingdom-shaping work by investing in girls! Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and let him guide your steps. Plan ahead for this when it comes to the next calendar year, and know that girls may drop out after spring break.
  3. Keep pouring in. Keep diving into God’s Word on a daily basis for wisdom for yourself and the girls in your life. Keep texting and calling the girls in your life and don’t miss a ministry opportunity, even though it looks different than you wanted it to.

“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.” Hebrews 12:1-3
