Summer is just around the corner, and I’m so excited about it! I haven’t been in school for a long time, but I still look forward to summer like I did when I was a kid!
It’s the best time of year! Summer means students are free to come hang out in my office, six flags on a weekday, mission trips, and best of all camp! Summer is when everything in the student ministry world ramps up!
Whether you are a girls minister or small group leader, here are some fun event/activity ideas to do with your girls this summer:
Pinterest Party – Find a few super simple DIY crafts from Pinterest and get your girls together for an evening of hanging out and making fun projects. Have your leaders and/or moms bring their favorite Pinterest dessert or finger food. Here are some of the projects my girls loved: Glitter mason jars, Cotton webbing/ribbon key chains, Chain-link hair ties, and Kool-Aid lip-gloss.
Movie Night – Have the girls wear their pjs and bring their favorite pillow and sleeping bag for a movie night. Popcorn is plenty for this, but if you want to throw in a candy bar…even better! Depending on how crazy you go with the candy bar, this is a super simple and super cheap way to spend some great time together.
Paint Slip N Slide – I Got this idea from a fellow girls minister, and my girls loved it! You’ll need a big tarp or plastic drop cloth from a local hardware store, a hose, several gallons of washable paint (I found the best price at a teacher supply store), and dish soap (this is the key to getting the tarp slippery). We also used Dollar Store buckets to mix the paint with water and water guns to get the water/paint mixture onto the tarp. Let’s be honest, the girls had a blast shooting each other with the water guns as well.
Lake/Park Day – Have the girls meet you at a local lake or park for a picnic. You can get sandwich trays from a grocery store for a reasonable price, or just buy the ingredients and have the girls make their own sandwiches. Coke floats or popsicles are also a fun and inexpensive way to beat the heat. Bring some frisbees, a volleyball, and lots of blankets. We had a local lake that offered kayaking and paddle boarding, so one summer we took two trips to the lake, and the girls loved it! Check your local parks or lakes for fun activities you can partner with.
What other fun, summer activities have you done with your girls?
