Waiting. I cringe at the sound of that word because I am horrible at it. I guess we can blame it on the culture we live in and we can all admit, we don’t wait well. Our fast pace, consumer culture where we can get anything we want, right when we want it… whether it’s a latte made to order to our specifications, a #1 combo with fries to fulfill a lunch craving, the latest song at the click of the word “download”, the latest movie on Netflix, that thing we must have on Amazon Prime with our “One-Click” purchase option, the list goes on and on. This getting what we want, when we want it mentality can be detrimental to us, especially when it comes to our faith.
Whenever we walk through that season of life where God requires us to wait on Him, we struggle and waiver because we don’t wait well. Whether it’s waiting on a breakthrough, waiting for an answer, for clear direction, waiting on a relationship to be mended, waiting for healing, waiting for that positive pregnancy test that you’ve been longing for, that prodigal child to come home, waiting for that perfect soul mate, waiting on the call to finally go bring home that baby after the long road of adoption, waiting on a job or a job promotion, whatever that “season” of waiting may be for you… walking through it can always be difficult for us. The “wilderness” can sometimes seem to us as if we have been forgotten by God or that He’s withheld something from us. We can begin to feel forgotten… or forsaken and from our vantage point, God may seem to have gone silent.
We often times have our timetable that we try and squish Him in– in our box, in our plan, and yet when things don’t work out in our time frame or the way we think it would go – we question God’s faithfulness or His goodness. We become like the Israelites in the wilderness who would rather go back to a life of bondage & slavery in Egypt that cling to the faithfulness of God their Provider and Deliverer in pursuing the Promise Land. And just like them, we waiver in our faith and trust in our God.
In our seasons of waiting it’s easy for us to start questioning and believing the lies of doubt that begin to creep in from the Enemy, but we can not allow our minds to go there. Because it’s in the season of waiting where the greatest growth can take place in us and in our faith if we only hold on to hope of what is on the other side of what God is orchestrating.
Faith in God includes faith in His timing!
God is NEVER early. Never late. And He is ALWAYS right on time. We must pause and remember what is TRUE. To have faith even in what we do not see just yet. To hold onto faith in the character of our God, and to cling to the things that we know to be true of Him – our God who is Faithful & True and “who works ALL things together for good for those who love Him and those who have been called according to HIS purpose.” [Romans 8:28]
So my friend, today… remember to preserver through your season of waiting. Trust in our Good Father who is always working behind the scenes on our behalf for our good & for His Glory. He is good, His Word is true, and we can trust Him! So instead of praying and asking Him for the “quick fix”, trust in His plan, in His timing and praise Him in the waiting. He will come through and prove Himself once again to be Faithful in your life.
“Wait patiently, knowing that waiting is never wasted when you are waiting on God.”
-Louie Giglio, “Waiting Here For You-An advent journey of hope”
