Summer is one of my favorite seasons of the year…not because I love the sun (I burn easily) and not because I love the heat (I adore autumn) but because my girls are out of school and the chances to spend time with them triple from the school year.
I love mid-morning text messages inviting me to grab lunch or do an afternoon coffee. Any time that I can spend with them is precious. I take it when I get it!
Over this summer the Lord has impressed this question on my heart:
“Am I intentional to make my time with the girls focused on Jesus?”
Just last week as I ate a “final” breakfast with one of my girls the day before she moved to college I thought of this question. Will our time be wasted or used to make much of Jesus?
We could have/would have easily gotten swept away in conversation about her dorm decor or her nerves about rush but I tried to be careful and guide our conversation. It was amazing to see the value and depth of a discussion about God that could have easily been moments of wasted time. As a girls ministry leader, our time with these girls is truly a gift– a brief moment that the Lord has orchestrated between their lives and our own that we get to spend with them. Wow.
So- isn’t it so important that we make sure that our hearts and minds are focused on Jesus before we get swept away with mindless chatter? What if we took on a challenge for our time spent with girls?
What if every conversation with our girls included these elements:
1. Prayer Needs
2. Praises of God’s work in lives
3. Discussion about lessons in our personal study and prayer
4. Point them to scripture
How much richer would our time with them be?
Let’s capture our time with these girls and make it meaningful.
Let’s replace the mindless chatter with conversations that matter.
